Marathon is a kind of Capital for the middle keys. This community lies right in the heart of the Florida Keys and is about two hours driving time from Miami and boasts a solid year round community of some 12,500 people, with numbers increasing massively during the winter season when the second home and condo owners arrive to enjoy a 78.F winter in the sun as against suffering through the cold in the northern states and in Canada

Water based activities are always popular in and around Marathon and the rest of the Middle Keys, given the wonderful natural habitat in which it is based and especially with the tourism industry being the principle money earner in the area, followed by fishing. The name "Marathon" was allegedly given to the key by the workers who toiled in the Railroad construction day after day - it was regularly commented on that the Railroad was a marathon project and the workers obviously agrees.

Marathon is where you will find a community hospital, both public and private schools, a public library, golf courses, a yacht club and a whole host of other "typical" essentials


The Florida Keys have been "declared" a national treasure and one of the brightest jewels in this string of pearls that leads south towards the Caribbean is Marathon.
